Liberty Girls Come Up BIG Against Fallsburg
Win 59-47 at Home

Monday, January 28th, 2008 - Liberty

It was Senior Night for the girl's basketball team and the last time Heather Stewart, Danielle Johnson and Kelley Lockwood would play basketball for Liberty. After the seniors were honored and the game began, it looked like these seniors would go out on a losing note. No one on Liberty could find the hoop and Fallsburg began to sink their shots. The lead was up to 11-0 before Liberty finally scored. The quarter ended with the Indians behind 15-4.

The second period started in much the same way but the ball began to fall for the lady Indians as Ceara Williams began to find her range. At the end of the period Liberty had outscored Fallsburg 13-10 but stilled trailed by eight points 25-17 going into the locker room.

In the third period Williams continued to hit for the Lady Indians scoring 10 of Liberty's 15 points. Erin Gilmore, Fallsburg's best player was held to just 2 points. The Lady Indians outscored the Lady Comets 15-8 in the period leaving Fallsburg just a 1 point lead!

Both teams stepped up the defense in the final period and had some shots that missed the mark. Williams was help to just 3 points but Angela Giacalone stepped up to sink some free throws when they counted. Gilmore came alive for Fallsburg netting 8 points. When all was said and done the teams were headed into a final 4 minute overtime with the score knotted at 43-43.

In the overtime Liberty looked fresher and simply DOMINATED the Fallsburg team. Williams scored 8 points and Giacalone hit 5 of 6 free throws as the Lady Indians put it to the Lady Comets 16-4.

The high scorer for Liberty and in the game was Ceara Williams who had 32 points. Angela Giacolone and Lissandra Vilma had each. Danielle Johnson added 5 and Heather Stewart 4. Fallsburg's top scorer was Erin Gilmore with 20, almost half of her team's points.

Liberty Girls Fall to Family School
Drop one at Home 51-37

Monday, January 28th, 2008 - Liberty

The Lady Indians hosted the Family School Falcons and for awhile the game was close and victory at hand. At the end of the first quarter the score was 14-12 in favor of Family. The second period was also close with more defensive pressure forcing turnovers on both ends. Liberty's pressing defense was working particularly well forcing the Falcons to take more time coming up court. At the half the score was 23-20 still in favor of the Lady Falcons.

In the third period family began to pull away but the Liberty players hung in. At the end of that period the score was 36-29 in favor of the Lady Falcons. The fourth period was a different story. Some ball handling miscues and errant passes spelled the end of the Kady Indians' challenge. The Family School outscored Liberty 15 to 8 in the last period sealing their 51-37 victory

Liberty was led by Ceara Williams with a game-high 18 points. Angela Giacalone added 9, Heather Stewart scored 4, Lisandra Villalobos netted 4 and Kristen Sarno 2. The Family School high scorers were Mary Schmieder on the inside with 15 and Claire Meehan from the outside with 11. Meehan also was one of the primary ball handlers along with Betty Wagner.

Liberty is in action again against the powerful Burke Ladty Eagles on Wednesday.

Liberty Girls Defeat TriValley
Win in OT at Home 47-42

Friday, January 11th, 2008 - Liberty

The Lady Indians hosted the Trivalley Lady Bears but did not prove to be gracious hots. Both teams struggled to score at times with with TiValley holding a narrow 17-15 lead at the half. The teams traded baskets in the second half with Liberty tying it at the end of regulation time. In overtime the Lady Indians outscored the Lady Bears 12 to 7 with some clutch foul shooting when it counted.

Cera Williams paced ALL scorers with 22 point hitting 7 out of 8 from the free throw line. Six of these points came in the overtime period. Angela Giacolone score 12 points in the game hitting 5 of 8 from the charity stripe and scoring 4 points in OT. Lissandra Villalobos handled the ball well and hit 3 of 4 foul shots in overtime. Danielle Johnson scored 6 points and Heather Stewart netted 4. For the Lady Bears Pugh scored 12 points with McNamara adding 8.
